A constant chatter

Writer's picture: Tony KendleTony Kendle

Researchers are continually finding out more about the constant communication between plants and their partners - fungi, pollinators and maybe... even us

Of course we have long known that flowers use colour and scent to send messages, but we now know also that fllowers hear the hum of bees and can respond by using heat and electrical signals to tell the pollinators which flower needs visiting and has the best rewards - underground too the fungi are sent electrical signals and other microbes are summoned to do the bidding of the roots.

One day I would not be surprised to learn that bees hear the whisper of the wind in the flowers too.

Nature has evolved every form of commmunication that we can imagine -

All around is a constant chatter, conspiring planning and coordinating the development of a healthy ecosystem. How could it be otherwise?
